Aptitude comes from knowing what you are good at

Sometime back a leading job portal would run a very interesting ad on TV showing job seekers who wanted to do something else in life, whereas forced to do a work they didn’t like. Somebody wanted to be a chef, but ended up being an accountant, another wanted to be a cricketer but ended up being a floor manager at a mall, still another, a hair dresser but ended up in an altogether different role. Through that ad, they were asking people to look out for jobs that they had talent and love for.

That brings me to ask, what else are we born with besides the skin, hair and eye colours?  Am I inherently talented to be a writer? Do I have a flair for music? Can I imagine objects like in a kaleidoscope? Do I have a flair for the arts – languages, theatre, movie making? Do I feel good working with a machine or with people? Does playing with spread sheets and numbers interest me or do such things wear me down? Am I a dreamer who can put those dreams into practice even though I may not have all the resources within me? What are those qualities that I am born with and am I “converting them to skills” to achieve success?

Doing something that is not part of an aptitude within usually makes most people unhappy. Like in the ad, such people sense they are in the wrong field, or that they are in the right field, yet a wrong place within it. And there are people who suddenly seem to realize that they never wanted to do what they are doing now. These people perhaps made their career decision too soon, sooner than they tried to discover themselves.

An aptitude that comes from within is a belief that provides the fuel for the skills to power your success!!
